A very well known chicken rice in this area. Been here few times already just get to review it this time officially. Ordered roast chicken, roast pork, charsiew and steam vegetable. The rice is good. Very fragrant. It looks small on the picture but is actually normal sized. Roast chicken is good which very well roasted. Charsiew this time they give me the meat part so it does not taste good on texture. Prefer to have half fat half meat which is golden ratio for charsiew. Roast pork are average and very salty. The skin is very hard this time. Hard to chew. Steam vegetable are ok with good amount of fried garlic. Overall good are ok but not those shop that I purposely go to eat. Can try when you are around. Price for this for 2 people are RM33.

Saw people queuing so I dove in. Roasted chicken came in hot—literally. Piping, juicy, and roasted to perfection. Char siew didn’t try to steal the spotlight but quietly delivered. Not too fatty, which I liked felt like the healthier rebel cousin of the usual oily crew. Choon Yien didn’t just coast on hype. It's one of those places where queueing doesn’t feel like a waste of life. Taste buds = satisfied.

Affordable, above average roast meats feature at this long-standing corner coffeeshop. Small and cosy with some outdoor seating. Well-maintained for its age. Ordered a morning serving of roast chicken breast meat - this wasn't slapped and halved with crispy skin, if you know what i mean plus roast pork - this was crunchy and chunky; the better of thr pair on this visit.

My first time coming here was with my sifu who told me that the roasted meat at Choon Yien was good. We arrived before lunch time as they sold out very fast and true enough the queue was forming come lunchtime. The situation didn't change much when I finally came here again for lunch after many years. It was still a popular roast meat place in Happy Mansion Sec 17 PJ. While the young boss was busy chopping the meat, his foreign assistant stood out by taking care of the rest - ordering, serving and collecting payments - one that I would love to be working for me. ◾Roasted chicken was definitely the star of this restaurant - the skin was crispy and separated from the meat effortlessly, evidently from airing the fowl before roasting to perfection. I could order a second helping easily. ◾Char Siew was one of the better I'd tried with lovely caramelization. ◾Siew Yuk has never been their forte but it was acceptable la.. just the skin was a bit hard. ◾Chicken rice was very fragrant with lemongrass and chicken stock taste. I stole a spoon of it. ◾ Complimentary preserved mustard soup was a delight as not many places actually served this soup..I drank a lot during my childhood years. The roast chicken alone is enough to justify a trip to this older part of PJ.

The roasted chicken here is one of the best. The chicken skin is really crispy. The best part I think is the thigh but overall is still good. The char siew is good but I felt the cut is too thick. There are other char siew place that is better. You must come here earlier as they finish selling about 1pm. For the down side, the food take some time to come as many people order, the place is small and not many tables, the place is pretty hot.

Famous food places usually comes with a different flare of service. The near first class or arrogant type. Luckily for this place, the arrogant one who dictates what you eat and yells at customers is now long gone. This particular Chinese shop has got a number of stalls but everyone comes here only for the chicken rice. The chicken is superbly marinated and their char siew melts in your mouth. The other add ons I would recommend you to order is their sour and spicy soup. Price is consider quite steep if you were to go in small numbers. But it averages out nicely when you have a big group. Always call in and book your orders or face disappointment upon arriving.

For melt in your mouth char siew that will have you salivating at the mere sight of it, the chicken rice stall at Restaurant Choon Yien dishes out strips of char siew that definitely rank high up in my list of best barbecued pork. (Yes, I have a list). My advice is to go for the sake of the char siew and the roast chicken. The siew yoke is tasty but you can probably get better elsewhere. This place rests specifically on the laurels of its juicy char siew in my opinion and should you decide to pay it a visit, I suggest that you go early as the char siew has a tendency to run out prematurely. Your best bet is to show up around 11 am to beat the lunch crowd
